Whew! It's been a busy weekend!!
Well...the end of my workweek started on kind-of a bittersweet note...
Our little kitty Bella the Fella went back to good ol' Mound City to live with my parents.
Yup, little Mr. Bella apparently got a little turned around and thought that maybe he should use the bathroom on our floors downstairs. Bad move, Bella...Bad move.
We had pretty much agreed on a zero-tolerance poop policy before Bella moved in....
and truth is, that Bella had actually had one other accident I found and quickly cleaned up before Roy saw it. So, to be fair, Bella had more than his fair chance. He's never been a cat who made messes in the house, so I dont really know what to think of why he pooped right in the middle of the floor only about 12 feet away from his litter box.
Maybe he didn't like it here after all
and he was trying to earn himself a one-way ticket back to the country.
Wish granted!!
Here's one last shot of Mr. Bella on his car ride 'home' to Mound City.
Well, we can't say that we didn't give it a shot. I just don't think we're ever going to be pet 'people'. Which is a little ironic seeing as how I grew up with an animal hoarder (not joking...my mom cannot control herself when it comes to bringing in animals)
We never had less than probably 10 pets in our 3 bedroom house.
Point. In. Case.
There we have it...the culprit is to your left and her loyal side-kick
is pictured on the right.
And keep in mind, that until I was about 19, we lived right in the middle of the city. Most families did fire or tornado drills....not us!! Nope, we had How-To-Hide-The-Animals-if-The-City-Ever-Came-to-Our-House drills. Nice. Now don't get me wrong...I definitely have a soft-spot for animals...those stupid feed-the-animal commercials always make me want to cry...and I've been known to throw many-a stray animal in my car,
but I just don't think I'm cut out to be a pet owner--atleast not at this point in my life.....
But speaking of animal hoarding, when I dropped Bella off at my parents house I went into their garage to look for their cat food and what did I find??
A freakin' huge great dane.
Most people have skeletons in their closets...not my mom...she's got giant dogs in her closet.
Anyways....as bad as I felt about dropping Bella back off at the 'farm' to fend for himself against coyotes and rednecks, I must say...I'm not going to miss the cat hair that was incessantly accumulating around our house. I just really can't do the cat hair all over my clothes, floors, bed.....Ick.
---------------------------------------------------
So, Saturday Roy and I slept in late and then headed to our favorite breakfast spot, Eggtc.
Despierto Burrito....I love you.
Is it a bad thing that the waitress offically knows our orders by heart?
Nope...it's a good thing...a very good thing.
So after stuffing ourselves silly we decided to tackle the never ending list I've titled;
"Attempting to make our house a home..."
We've been in dire-need for a new mattress for our bed. Roy wakes up complaining every day about his back and quite frankly, I'm sick of hearing about it. So we decided to go mattress shopping.
We ended up finding a good deal at the Sears Outlet downtown.
Yay!
Now I can scratch 'Buy a new mattress' off the ist!
We brought the new mattress home and then got inspired to set up our guest room with our old mattress....which inspired us to put up the rest of the blinds that I bought...which in-turn, inspired us to clean the entire house!!!
Who knew that buying a mattress would start such a flurry of activity?!!
Our guest room!!
Start happy dancing, cause I sure am!!
And then come on over and stay awhile!
Now we'll actually have somewhere for guests to sleep! I still need to get some shams for it, and I still need to hang the damask curtains I bought to match the throw pillow on the bed.
But regardless, it's a bona-fide guest bed now.
Now all I need is somewhere for my guests to go pee!!!
...this is what my guest bathroom consists of right now,
not exactly ready for entertaining....
Eh, who needs a bathroom?!
They're totally overrated!
Blinds in the office!!
(sorry for the dark picture)
Now theres even less of a chance that our neighbors
will see us walking around naked!
Yay for modesty!!
And here's our spankin' new mattress with some new fall
bedding that I put on it!!
Looks cozy right??
I'm pretty happy with it!!
--------------------------------------------------
To wrap up our weekend, yesterday we woke up and finished the cleaning extravaganza that had started the night before. I swear, it feels so good to come home to a clean house.
In general, I tend to be more of a tidy/straightening-up kind of person, but I really don't love to deep clean. I will run around like a crazy person putting things in their places,
but it takes a lot of motivation for me to get down on my hands an knees and scrub the floor boards. Roy, on the other hand, can tend to be messy.
He throws his belongings every which way and it drives me crazy...
but when the man cleans....he cleans.
There's no half-assed cleaning going on when he's involved.
So combined, we were pretty much a force to be reckoned with.
When we were finally done cleaning I went to Homegoods... where I spent way too much money a few dollars on some finds that I just had to have.
I love that store.
When I got home Roy said that he wanted to take me out for dinner and a movie.
We couldn't decide what we wanted, so I figured we'd head to the Cheesecake Factory.
I mean, their menu is like 20 pages long...you can't NOT find something you want to order.
And thanks a lot, I'm now offically obsessed with their
Bang Bang Chicken and Shrimp.
Please...run, don't walk....to your nearest Cheesecake Factory and eat this...so that we can talk about it.
As soon as we got home I google'd the recipe for it so I can try to re-create it at home...ha!
I'm sure that will be a sight to see...
After dinner we went to see The Help.
I was pretty excited to see this movie since I recently read the book and really liked it.
The movie was great too, not quite as good as the book, but I guess that's to be expected.
Roy loved it too, even though there wasn't a single shooting-sequence or battle scene.
I mean, if you have any semblance of heart...you'll love this movie.
Roy hates to sit through any credits, so we always leave pretty quickly after the movie ends...
When we got up and walked out of the movie theater hand-in-hand I had this overwhelming
sense that people were looking at us.
Who knows if anyone even noticed us, it may have been completely in my head,
but I definitely felt a keen awareness for who we are and what we represent.
I felt like we were a walking display of how far society has come.
And although we've definitely experienced our fair share of 'resistance' to our relationship,
It's still so weird to think that 60 years ago, it would have been illegal for Roy and I to be together....
much less, be married.
Moral of the story....the movie was good...the weekend was great.
And at this moment, life is pretty great.
I'll take it.
