Starlight

Tonight my mom, sister and I went to dinner and then out to Starlight to see.....
 Rodger's & Hammerstein's Cinderella!
The play was great and the weather was cool in comparison to what we've been having.  Theres just nothing that says 'summer time' for me, like sitting out at Starlight in the warm nighttime air.  I'm just glad it decided not to downpour on us like it did last year at Beauty and the Beast....
(although the vegetation, formerly known as our yard, could really use some hydration-
I'm still glad it didn't rain!!!)
We had dinner at Cheesecake Factory. I ordered the Bang Bang Chicken, which was a Thai-inspired shrimp and chicken dish. I was pretty happy with it. Then Kelly and I split a piece of lemon raspberry cheesecake---YUMM-O!!  I must think vacation has already started, cause nothing I ate was even close to being considered 'diet-food'.....oops....and I wonder why I don't lost weight! Damn you self control!
Here's 3 pics I took on my phone..

We may or may not have chased down the cotton candy man
during intermission....we were definitely the oldest people standing in a group of
6 year olds buying this stuff...

Cotton-candy comaaaa.....so good

My mom is staying the night at our house tonight so she wouldn't have to drive back to Tim-buk-tu (also known as Mound City, where my parents up and moved to this winter....if you're sensing bitterness-you're absolutely right!). I think the plan is to head to the City River Market in the morning! Should be another fun day....hopefully I can get my night-shifted self to sleep sometime before 4AM. YiKeS!

Date night

Roy and I have recently decided to try and be better about going out on "date nights"...
those of you with kids might be laughing hysterically right now!!!
Why do two people with no kids need a date night?!!
Well regardless...my mom said she thought it would be good for us.
And although I always thought that 'date nights' were something that couples with kids did...I must say I think making a conscience effort to go out together (versus laying in bed eating gummi bears...although that can be fun too..) will be good for our marriage.

Tonight, Roy suggested that we go to Fork and Spoon....thats Roy for: Fork and SCREEN...where you eat dinner while watching the movie.
We've talked about doing this for easily a year or two, but never seem to get around to it OR we're guilty of going out to dinner, eating, and then getting sleepy and just deciding to go home (can you say old fogey's?) Fortunately, a movie we both wanted to see was playing...Captain America!

The theater was really nice, and the seats were big red leather recliners that had tables that swung in front of you. We looked over the menu and pressed the call light for our waitress when we were ready to order. The food was eh....SO-SO....I ordered the Coconut Thai Chicken Fingers. They were overpriced (not surprisingly) but I guess you're paying for the experience!! I took a couple pictures on my cell phone  prior to receiving our food ( I apologize for the crappy quality!!)

I couldn't get a serious face out of him

Still....refusing to look normal...

After several threats....a normal smile

and myself!
Good fun on a hot Thursday night!!

vacation in T minus 10 days!!!

I have a serious case of vacation-itis!!
We havn't left town to go anyplace but Branson (does Branson even really count?? I don't think so..) since FEBRUARY OF 2010!!! Call me a brat but, HOW AM I EVEN ALIVE RIGHT NOW??!!
Ok, Ok....
I just feel like everyone I know has amazing trips planned or has recently gotten back from great vacations...I look at their awesome pictures with a smile on my face but with daggers in my eyes!! LOL..that might be a bit of an over-exaggeration....
but have no fear!!!.... although I don't have any uber luxurious vacations planned anytime soon.... we do have a family reunion coming up in Steamboat Springs Colorado!!

It's no Turks & Caicos...but I'll take it!!
(FYI.... Everyone who knows me knows that I DO have an entire trip to Turks & Caicos planned out, just waiting to be booked someday!)

Ahhhhh....Turks & Caicos I dont even know you yet but I love you......
Anyhoo...back to reality....
We're leaving on the 7th or 8th of August and we'll be gone until the 15th! I'm so ready for the cooler temps!!  We've never been to Steamboat, but I've done my research (like any good trip-planner should...I love you tripadvisor!!!) and we have a lot of fun activities planned!  I think all-in-all there will be about 15-20 of us combined from Kansas, Colorado and California. I obviously have a really small family :( sad face... but none-the-less it should be great time.
To sweeten the deal even more-some of our family from CA have a time share,  and we're staying in a 3 bedroom condo for a whoping $85 for the week!! Cheap people of the world rejoice!!! Thats like $15 bucks a person...NiCe!!

Here's some of the fun activies we have planned...cause I know you care so much...

  • Howler Alpine Slides
  • Silver Bullet Gondola-takes you to the tops of Mt. Werner!
  • ATV tours near Hahn's Peak
  • Whitewater rafting- SUPER excited for this!! I need water shoes though!!!
  • Mountain Biking the Yampa River Trail...there are other trails but they sound a little hard core for these thighs....I'll stick to paved paths thank you very much...
  • Strawberry Hot Springs...beware the nude-ys!!
  • Tubing the Yampa River-hopefully no trout try to bite my arse...
  • Fish Creek Falls-a set of trails of waterfalls you can hike
.......and hiking
.......... and eating and eating and more eating!!!!

My diet is officially being paused for this vacation.....

So thats whats goin' on in our house!!!  Get excited!!!

House update....

One of the only things I've ever had to legitimately blog about is our house and all the projects that we've done over the last 2 years.  In all honestly, the last year and a half we haven't done nearly as many projects as we did in the first 6 months.... In February we did however finally finish our master bathroom that had been sitting partially gutted for about a year.  It was quite the undertaking and way stressfull (did I mention that I never want to do anything like this ever again??) and since we dont have a "contractor" I work as the organizer and middle-man for all the involved people...the tile guys, the carpenter, the plumber, the electrician...blah, blah blah! Shoot me!!  Here are a couple pictures...

gutted mess....

working on plumbing for the tub

building the new tub and shower surround

we do have glass around the shower now, but I've apparently not taken
any pictures of it!
Heres a reminder of what our bathroom USED to look like about 2 years ago..

It was worth it in the end!!

Last night I finally got myself motivated to paint our dining room
(with the paint we bought for it last winter...)
Roy and I have debated about the color since we moved in, but I've always
insisted that brown would look really nice and elegant..
and I think I'm right!

This is just the first coat

Please keep in mind that I did this on about 4 hours of sleep
and I cannot be held accountable for my actions....

Point in Case.
I may or may not have called myself a painting warrior princess.....

It's been a long time...

Soooo....remember how I used to have a blog??
Aaaand I really liked to update my blog and I blogged about trivial little things that happened to me...
I liked to post pictures....
I liked to try and pretend like I was interesting and funny...

And then remember that my wierd husband googled himself (who does that??)....and he didn't care much for the fact that pictures of him from my internet blog were popping up on google images... (SO not a big deal!!)

Anyhoo...I deleted my little bloggy....

...until now!!

I merely explained to him, that since I'm not on the FB...I have no way to show people all the not awesome trips that we're not taking and non-existant cool things that we're not doing!!!  NOT FAIR!!

He didn't necessarily agree...but he didn't disagree either....so that was an "O.K." in my book!!

Now....all I need is something cool to blog about....dangit....

Well for starters...here's a few things I've been up to this summer...

My sister started working at Deanna Rose Farmstead in April as the Animal Care Manager (this is SO right up her alley..) so I've made couple trips to hang out with her...

heres me feeding...errr...getting mauled by goats..

freakin' cute little baby goat...

We've had some good times with the family....
Including Christmas in the Summer when Grammy finally came home from
the rehab hospital!!

Grammy and Kelly....whys Grammy gotta be the cutest old lady in the world??
I just love her to pieces!

Timing was perfect cause some of our family from Colorado was in town
for a visit....

Cousin Brianna, Uncle Steve, and Cousin Jane from Colorado

Mom and Aunt Barbara

On July 3rd we celebrated mom and dad's 30th wedding anniversary!
WOW!!!  Tell us your secrets...PLEASE!!!

On the actual Fourth of July Holiday, I decided that we would be super-patriotic
and head to the WWI museum, which I've been wanting to go to for years!
I love museums (cause I'm dorky like that...)

The entrance from the top of the tower...

Down town KC

After the museum and dinner we hopped on our bikes and rode to corporate woods
to see the fireworks display!!
Lets just say I'm a genius...cause riding your bikes into that
parking madhouse is definitely the way to go!!

Some crazy lady had her poor dog dressed up like a patriotic farmer....poor little
thing tried to run away in shame atleast once while we sat here..
(I took this picture just for you Rachael :)

Great way to end the Fourth of July!!
